Breast cancer survivor Delina Stokes sloshed through the mud Sunday accompanied by a gaggle of grandchildren. On any other day at Dorset Park in South Burlington, “Grandma’s gremlins” and their matching pink T-shirts might have stood out. At Sunday’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, they blended into a sea of pink: Hundreds of people with pink shirts, hair and feather boas.
“It means a lot to me that kids this young, even though they’re my grandchildren, would come out here to support me,” said Stokes, 53, of Huntington. One of about 80 breast cancer survivors to attend Sunday’s fundraising event, Stokes was diagnosed with the disease on Valentine’s Day 2006.
